1932 World Series. Game 3. Wrigley Field. Babe Ruth steps up to
the plate.
Cubs fans are yelling. Ruth is yelling back.
It’s less baseball, more vaudeville.
The count runs full. Then it happens. Ruth
raises his arm and points to center field.
The pitcher throws.
Ruth swings.
The ball explodes off the bat and sails deep…
to center field.
Home run.
The stadium went silent. Did he actually call
his shot? Did he point at the pitcher? The dugout? The hot dog vendor?
No one agrees.
Ruth later claimed he absolutely called it.
Cubs players said he was just gesturing wildly
like he always did.
Film footage exists… but it’s grainy and
inconclusive. Baseball’s Zapruder film.
The only thing everyone agrees on? He hit the
ball a very long way. Whether or not he predicted it, Babe Ruth turned a home
run into a legend. And honestly, that feels very on-brand.
